CANU is a national organization dedicated to fostering vibrant, inclusive, and well-designed Canadian communities. Through advocacy, events, and professional development, we connect urban practitioners and champion best practices in Canadian urbanism.

About the Role

The Council for Canadian Urbanism (CANU) is seeking a part-time volunteer Social Media Coordinator to help amplify our voice and connect urban professionals across Canada. Reporting to the Communications Committee, you will play an essential role in sharing CANU's mission, celebrating member achievements, and building an engaged online community.


ROLE OVERVIEW

Communications Committee

Commitment:

Approximately 4–6 hours per week

Location:

Remote (Canada)

Compensation:

Volunteer (unpaid)

Term:

One year, renewable by mutual agreement


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and schedule engaging social media posts across CANU’s platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, and X/Twitter)

  • Monitor mentions, comments, and conversations relevant to Canadian urbanism

  • Engage with and respond to posts from member organizations, partners, and peers

  • Help grow CANU’s audience through consistent, on-brand content

  • Collaborate with the Communications Committee to support campaign and event promotion

  • Track basic engagement metrics and share periodic updates with the Committee


Requirements

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Genuine interest in urban planning, design, housing, or Canadian cities

  • Comfort creating and posting content on LinkedIn, Instagram, or X

  • Clear, engaging written communication skills in English (bilingual French/English an asset)

  • Self-motivated with an eye for timely and relevant conversations

  • Experience with tools such as Canva, Buffer, Hootsuite, or Later is an asset

  • Students and emerging professionals are strongly encouraged to apply
