Partner, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA)
Emily Mueller De Celis, a partner at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates (MVVA) with over 25 years of experience, is known for her interdisciplinary approach—merging architecture, landscape, ecology, and urbanism to solve complex design challenges. Her work often reflects a deep understanding of materials, site history, and community needs, resulting in urban landscapes that are both technically refined and emotionally resonant. She has shaped a diverse range of cultural and urban landscapes across North America, from Manhattan’s Teardrop Park to Chicago's highline The 606 to climate-responsive projects revitalizing Toronto’s waterfront. Notable works include Corktown Common in the West Don Lands and the Port Land’s Biidaasige Park at the newly naturalized Don River mouth.
In addition to her project work, Emily oversees the daily operations of MVVA’s Cambridge office. She is an active member of Toronto’s Waterfront Design Review Panel and is committed to advancing hands-on STEAM education in the Boston area's public school gardens as a board member of CitySprouts.
Emily holds a BA in Art History from Wellesley College, a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) from the University of Virginia, and a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) from the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD).
